The opportunity
For many children and young people, their first connection with our game starts through AFL Auskick, junior football, school programs and community experiences.
As Programs and Participation Coordinator - Alice Springs, you will help grow participation by delivering high-quality football programs and creating safe, friendly and fun experiences across school, after-school and community club environments.
This permanent full-time role is based in Alice Springs and plays an important part in supporting young participants, schools, clubs, volunteers and local communities to connect with Australian football.
What you’ll own
You will coordinate and deliver participation programs that give children and young people a positive first experience of the game.
You’ll add value through:
- Delivering AFL programs across school, after-school and community club environments in line with program curriculum and safety requirements
- Creating safe, friendly and fun program environments where all participants can take part and build confidence
- Delivering high-quality school football competitions and programs that support participation growth
- Supporting transition and retention pathways from AFL Auskick and school programs into junior club football
- Building effective relationships with teachers, schools, clubs and other program stakeholders to support local delivery
- Organising AFL player visits and fan engagement opportunities that connect communities with the game
- Supporting junior clubs and Auskick centres with recruitment, volunteers, coaching, protocols, promotion and venue hire
- Conducting promotional activities, including school assemblies and other engagement opportunities, to help meet participant targets
- Supporting the development and growth of AFL alternative formats in the region
- Contributing to key projects and supporting the success of the broader team
What you’ll bring
- Experience working with children and young people in sport, education, community or participation environments
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including interpersonal and presentation capability
- Strong organisation and planning skills, with the ability to coordinate programs, stakeholders and competing priorities
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work effectively with limited supervision
- Proven customer service capability, including the ability to negotiate and work constructively with different stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to relate to and engage diverse communities
- A commitment to creating safe, inclusive and enjoyable experiences for children and young people
- A valid Working with Children Check, or the ability to obtain and maintain one as required
- A satisfactory criminal history record check
- A current driver’s licence and the ability to travel as required
- Willingness to work outside normal business hours from time to time, including evenings and weekends, in line with the nature of the sporting industry
