ABOUT THE ROLE

The Indigenous Academies Program Coordinator will coordinate the delivery of in-school and after-school programs in the Western Sydney Indigenous Academies with a strong focus on educational goals, school attendance, school completion and transitioning students into further education and employment opportunities.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the development and lead the execution of the Western Sydney Indigenous Academies
  • Maintain good relationships with key stakeholders across the Blacktown and Campbelltown partner schools, including Principals and Aboriginal Education Officers
  • Increase education, employment and health outcomes for Academy students, in partnership with other service providers in Western Sydney
  • Mentor, motivate and inspire Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to reach their potential
  • Assist Academy students to access opportunities to educational and employment pathways
  • Mentor and manage casual program staff
  • General office administrative tasks
  • Support other areas of the business as requested such as AFL football programs

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Deliver culturally appropriate mentoring and support program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander High School students in Western Sydney.
  • Deliver the Academies term plans in 8 partner schools in Blacktown and Campbelltown with the support of two casual program assistants
  • Support the development and implementation of the Western Sydney Indigenous Academies term plans
  • Coordinate the after-school academies programs focused on community engagement, health and wellbeing
  • Provide administrative support, including research on potential partner organisations, researching information for term plans, sourcing quotes and booking after-school and holiday activities.
  • Collect attendance data and student evaluation forms and other data as requested
  • Attend and help facilitate the After-School programs
  • Keep a register of students receiving extra support who may be at risk students
  • Mentor, motivate and support students at each partner school to succeed in their studies and leadership development
  • Ensuring that the day to day operating of the program meets the program objectives
  • Incorporate AFL programs into the Western Sydney Indigenous Academies in partnership with the GWS team

  • Ability to connect with students and deliver education sessions in a fun and engaging way
  • Ability to interact with students as a mentor and provide extra support to students as needed

  • Strong team player and proven ability to lead a small team
  • Ability to identify and solve complex issues with various stakeholders

  • High School Certificate
  • Certificate qualification in community, health, youth work, social work, or other related area
  • Class C Driver’s license with reliable vehicle
  • Working with Children Check
  • National Police Certificate

  • First Aid Certificate
