ABOUT THE ROLE
Without community football umpires, there is no game, and this role is all about making sure we’ve got plenty of them!
As a Development Officer - Community Umpiring QLD (Casual) in South-East Queensland, you’ll play a key role in helping more people get involved in community football umpiring and making sure they love the experience enough to stick around. From supporting clubs and schools to rolling out recruitment events, you’ll be on the front foot in creating positive, welcoming umpire environments.
This is a casual role with plenty of variety, some weeks will be busy with events, others will be focused on connecting with clubs and supporting our retention programs. Either way, you’ll know the work you do directly impacts the future of our game.
This role is great for people who:
- Have umpired before and want to give back to the next generation of officials
- Love working with people and building welcoming, inclusive environments
- Have experience in clubs, schools, or community sport and want to help grow the game
- Enjoy flexible, active work that gets you out in the community
- Are creative problem solvers who like finding new ways to connect and engage
This role is about people. Bringing new umpires in, making sure they feel valued, and keeping them connected to the game. If you’re passionate about footy, love working with people, and want to make a difference in your community, we want to hear from you.
We will be closed for our annual closure period between December 22 2025, returning January 12 2026. Over this closure period, applications will not be responded to during this time.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
No two days are the same, but you could find yourself:
- Running recruitment activities at schools, clubs, or community events
- Supporting fun “Come & Try” style programs to introduce new people to umpiring
- Helping clubs strengthen their Club Umpire Coordinator programs with resources and support
- Making sure events run smoothly, from planning and setup to collecting feedback
- Checking in with local umpire groups to support retention strategies that make umpiring more welcoming, inclusive, and fun
- Working with the broader umpiring team to deliver state and national initiatives
OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER
We’re looking for people who are:
- Confident communicators with a positive, can-do attitude
- Organised and reliable, with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently, but also great team players
- Creative and ready to think outside the box to help grow community umpiring
- Tech-savvy (comfortable with Word, Excel, online tools, and social media)
Must Haves:
- Experience in footy; playing, umpiring, coaching or coordinating
- A strong understanding of community umpiring and club environments
- Experience working with community clubs and stakeholders
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required
- A current driver’s licence and reliable transport
- Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
Desired:
- Experience in community sport or education
- Presentation or public speaking skills
- Strong relationship-building skills
