ABOUT THE ROLE
For many children, their first experience in our game is through participation in an AFLQ run School Competition. As a casual Match Officer in South-East Queensland, you will play a key role in helping our participation workforce through the delivery of high quality and engaging school football match days and competitions, introducing participants to the AFL. You will be trained to deliver a high-quality match day to diverse audiences in a safe, consistent, and inclusive way.
Our Match Officers will assist in delivering match days for our Premier School Competitions (Term 1 & 4), AFLQ Schools of Excellence (Term 1 & 2), AFLQ Schools Cup (Term 1, 2 & 3) and other AFL run competitions across the year. Competitions operate during and after business hours, including weekends.
What You'll Be Doing – A Day in the Life:
As Match Officer, you'll be out in the community helping kids get moving and feel part of something bigger through AFL. Your day could include:
- Coordinating school football competition match days — helping create fun, positive experiences for kids and families.
- Coordinating the logistics of match day including game timings, operations requirements and liaison between coaches, players & officials, and ensuring all rules and safety procedures are followed.
- Venue set up
- Using PlayHQ for match results live-scoring, including scorecards and team sheets are submitted.
- Promoting AFL pathways and strengthening links between schools, clubs, and local communities.
- Should we call out this can fall across Primary & Secondary comps?

This is a casual role, perfect for those who thrive in dynamic, community-focused environments. Hours can vary, ranging from quick, two-hour shifts to longer stints during peak competition periods. Flexibility is key – some weeks may be busier than others, so if you’re adaptable and ready to jump in when needed, this role is for you. Most shifts typically occur:
- During school hours for school competitions.
- After school for school competitions.
