ABOUT THE ROLE

The Editor - Original Content will create engaging content for the AFL, AFL Network channels (website, app, socials) and other key stakeholders (broadcasters, third party publishers).

 

This hands-on position will play an important role in the creation of strategically important content that resonates with AFL and AFLW fans, dives deep into the storylines that matter, and support the department’s objective of attracting passionate and new fans to key platforms. 

 

A storyteller at heart, you will have experience editing high-quality short and long form documentaries, films and content series for a diverse range of audiences.

 

This role requires strong stakeholder management, the capacity to contemplate and execute on wide-ranging feedback and to work with a range of budgets and timelines.

 

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

Reporting into the Director of Original Content & Partnerships, the role will work closely with AFL and AFLW editorial teams, the Facility and Operations manager, and the Producer - Original Content, to produce best in class content that makes meaningful connection with the audience. You will also support editing and managing key off network Development projects with external production companies and distributors to ensure smooth delivery of content.

 

This role will also support content creation for critical tentpole annual moments including the AFL and AFLW Grand Finals, the AFL Hall of Fame and Sir Doug Nicholls Round and AFLW Indigenous Round.

 

This role will support media asset management processes, be able to work on the end-to-end production process from storyboarding to editing to sound mixing.

 

The Editor - Original Content possesses creative flair, end-to-end production experience, new ways of thinking and an all-round passion for developing outstanding creative communications. They also have a good knowledge of both the AFL and the AFLW competition, the players and a passion for growing the game.

 

The incumbent enjoys working in a close-knit team, has strong collaboration skills and the ability to juggle a range of stakeholders - including crew, external production agencies, other content creators and talent.

 

We will be closed for our annual closure period from December 22 2025, returning January 12 2026. Over this closure period, applications will not be responded to during this time.

 

OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER

  • 3+ years as an editor creating long and short form content for digital publishing platforms
  • A highly organised approach to pre and post-production with demonstrated capability to support producers and directors and oversee the edit of content
  • Proficiency in AVID or the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to create graphics for video and publishing points (i.e. thumbnails)
  • A strong creative flair and passion for great content
  • Strong understanding of the AFL and AFLW competition and a strong editorial news sense
  • Experience working with third-party studio providers and production agencies
  • An ability to connect with talent and producers
  • A strong understanding of video production budgeting
  • Strong product and best practice knowledge regarding video distribution platform and channels including, but not limited to:
    • Digital and Broadcast Platforms (website, app and Linear/OTT)
    • Social media platforms and channels such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram (including IGTV, Stories and Reels) X and Reddit
  • Strong written communication skills
  • The ability to self-produce and work autonomously
  • Excellent team player
