Project Lead
Date: 26 May 2026
Location: Docklands, Victoria, AU
Company: Australian Football League
Join the team shaping the future of Australia’s game
This is your chance to do work that has real impact, in an organisation that moves fast, aims high and plays a meaningful role in the lives of millions across the country through football. Every role at the AFL helps progress the game, so more people can love it, connect with it and see what is possible through it.
At Marvel Stadium, that impact extends to one of Australia’s leading sports and entertainment venues. From AFL match days to concerts, international sport, major events, functions and precinct experiences, your work helps bring millions of patrons together and deliver memorable moments in the heart of Melbourne.
The opportunity
The Project Lead will play a pivotal role in leading cross-functional projects across Marvel Stadium and AFL premium business operations, driving initiatives focused on improving fan experience, commercial performance and operational efficiency.
This is not a large-scale program delivery or deeply technical role. This role is about driving meaningful change through people. You’ll partner closely with teams across the organisation to shape how work gets done – facilitating, partnering and supporting them to adopt new approaches, improve processes and embed better ways of working. Your success will come from building trust, influencing outcomes and helping others make change stick. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.
What you'll own
- Lead cross-functional projects: Focusing on people-first delivery (not technical delivery), you’ll work across stadium operations, membership, ticketing and commercial teams, bringing people together, navigating differing views and support teams to move from idea to action. Your focus will be on ensuring changes are understood, adopted and embedded.
- Lead the Marvel Stadium technology roadmap: Working in close partnership with technical teams and stakeholders, you’ll help prioritise initiatives, clarify intent, and ensure decisions are grounded in real user and team needs. Your role isn’t to design technical solutions, but to create alignment, cut through complexity, and keep progress moving through strong communication and coordination.
- Enable and optimise team performance: You’ll work directly with teams to improve how they operate by removing friction, strengthening ways of working, and building capability over time. Through facilitation, coaching, and day-to-day partnering, you’ll help teams adopt more effective practices and continuously improve. Success in this space comes from understanding people, not just processes.
The ideal candidate
- You’re a strong communicator and facilitator, comfortable bringing people together, navigating different perspectives, and building alignment without relying on authority.
- You have experience leading projects and are comfortable applying core project management fundamentals including planning, prioritisation, stakeholder engagement, and keeping work on track.
- You’re able to confidently engage with technical teams, understanding enough to ask the right questions, translate concepts, and support decision-making. You don’t need to design or deliver technical solutions yourself, but you can bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders, helping ensure alignment, clarity, and progress.
- You enjoy being hands-on, rolling up your sleeves to move things forward rather than sitting above the work.
- You’re solutions-focused, able to spot opportunities for improvement and turn them into practical, achievable actions.
- You’ll have commercial and analytical capability, with experience translating data and insights into actionable reporting and operational outcomes.
- You’re comfortable working in environments that are less structured, where progress comes from initiative, collaboration, and influencing outcomes rather than formal governance.
- Experience working with operational and reporting platforms is advantageous.
- Exposure to stadium, membership, events or live sporting environments highly regarded.
