The opportunity
Membership is one of the AFL industry’s most important football-related revenue streams, helping clubs strengthen connections with members and deliver great experiences for fans across the game. This role plays a critical part in supporting sustainable membership growth, operational excellence and improved member outcomes across the AFL industry.
As Senior Manager, Club Membership, you will lead membership operations performance across the AFL while partnering with clubs to design, deliver and grow membership programs. You will oversee the AFL’s shared service membership model, support all 19 AFL Clubs and the AFL Membership Program, and help shape the next phase of a more proactive, performance-led industry support model. Reporting to the Head of Consumer, you will lead three direct reports and a wider team of 15 full-time team members.
What you’ll own
This is a high-impact leadership role focused on lifting capability, performance and consistency across the AFL membership ecosystem.
You’ll add value through:
- Building trusted partnerships with AFL Clubs to support membership program design, growth, member experience and long-term performance
- Leading membership operations performance across the shared service model, ensuring high service standards, quality outcomes and effective issue resolution
- Leading and developing the Club Membership Enablement Manager cohort to drive capability uplift, accountability and performance improvement across clubs
- Partnering with clubs ahead of key membership periods to strengthen planning, reduce operational risk and improve conversion, delivery and member outcomes
- Leading the resolution of complex membership and ticketing issues during peak periods while identifying and addressing root causes
- Analysing membership performance trends, risks and opportunities to inform interventions and improve industry-wide outcomes
- Establishing and embedding consistent standards, frameworks and playbooks for membership operations and program execution
- Ensuring disciplined delivery and service excellence across the membership lifecycle and critical operational periods
- Using performance and operational insights to prioritise improvements and drive continuous enhancement across clubs and AFL teams
- Driving alignment between clubs and AFL business units to improve consistency, reduce friction and deliver better member experiences
- Creating clarity in decision-making, ways of working and issue management across the membership system
- Fostering a high-accountability team culture with clear ownership, collaboration and follow-through
What you’ll bring
- Demonstrated senior leadership experience within a commercial organisation
- Proven ability to lead through others and drive performance at scale across complex operational environments
- Experience delivering multiple strategic priorities in fast-paced settings
- Strong understanding of membership operations, membership growth drivers and member experience
- Sound operational judgement with the ability to make decisions, manage risk and maintain delivery under pressure
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement, relationship management and conflict resolution skills
- Experience working across membership, ticketing, customer support, consumer or related operational functions
- Strong analytical capability, with experience using performance insights to identify opportunities and improve outcomes
- Ability to build trusted partnerships and influence stakeholders across diverse and sometimes competing priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing and presenting information to senior stakeholders
- Experience creating structure, standards and scalable processes that improve performance and consistency
- Knowledge of ticketing, membership and/or CRM platforms, ideally including Ticketmaster Archtics and Salesforce CRM
- Understanding of the AFL industry and the relationship between clubs and the league will be highly regarded
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational leadership and execution
