ABOUT THE ROLE
The AFL is seeking a talented and driven Videographer/Editor to join its Editorial Video team.
This role is open to candidates with different levels of experience, but at its core is a hands-on role that will shoot, direct and edit engaging editorial content for AFL Network channels (website, app, social media).
The Videographer/Editor will play a pivotal role in creating engaging news, short and long-form content that engages with AFL and AFLW fans.
From shooting press conferences, one-on-one interviews and behind-the-scenes specials, to editing premium programs like Footy Feed or AFL Daily, AFL archive documentaries, and features with AFL/AFLW players, this role requires a versatile and industrious creative skillset with a passion for innovative, high-quality content.
You will use your extensive experience working within a digital production environment (ideally at a sporting organisation or Club) to contribute to ideation and execute content that is fit for purpose with the target audience and publishing point.
This role is an integral part of a tight-knit Editorial Video team and works closely with the wider AFL and AFLW editorial teams, the Facilities and Operations Manager and Managing Editors of AFL, AFLW and Social channels to execute editorial content published on the AFL Live App, afl.com.au, womens.AFL and AFL and AFLW social channels.
In addition to supporting the team’s day-to-day content, this role will also create content for critical tentpole annual moments including the AFL Trade Period, the AFL and AFLW Draft, Gather Round, Origin and AFL and AFLW Grand Finals.
Reporting into the Executive Producer – Editorial Video, this Videographer/Editor will provide strategic input into resource planning and workflow optimisation.
The role will be a driving force in the AFL’s goal to engage fans across its network of channels, joining a team that is focused on driving audience, commercial growth and interest in the game.
The right candidate will be responsible for ideation, production and creation of a vast range of editorial content to drive audience and commercial outcomes. You will have the ability to create content and oversee the entire process, while also inspiring peers to raise creative standards across the team. You will possess creative flair, end-to-end production experience, new ways of thinking and an all-round passion for developing outstanding creative communications. You will also have a strong knowledge of both the AFL and the AFLW competition, the players and a passion for growing the game.
You will enjoy working in a close-knit team, have strong collaboration skills and the ability to juggle a range of stakeholders - including crew, other Videographers and talent.
OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- 4+ years as a Videographer producing short and long-form content for a digital publisher or sporting organisation
- Demonstrated high-level capability to produce, shoot and edit content using a variety of production equipment
- A highly organised approach to pre- and post-production
- Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and/or AVID editing systems
- The ability to self-produce and work autonomously
- A strong creative flair and passion for great content
- Ability to create graphics for video and publishing points (i.e. thumbnails)
- Strong understanding of the AFL and AFLW competition and a strong editorial news sense
- An ability to pitch creative ideas internally and externally to drive fandom and/or commercial growth
- An ability to direct and inspire crews to deliver desired outcomes and experience working with third-party studio providers and production agencies
- An ability to connect with talent and direct accordingly
- A strong understanding of video production budgeting and reporting
- Strong product and best practice knowledge regarding video distribution platform and channels including, but not limited to:
- Digital and Broadcast Platforms (website, app and Linear/OTT)
- Social media platforms and channels such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram (including Stories and Reels) X and Reddit
- Strong written communication skills
- A commitment to being an excellent team player, always
- Experience working with audio and an understanding of editing, producing and publishing audio content
- An understanding that this role will at times require after hours work
