The opportunity
The Event Accountant plays an important role in helping Marvel Stadium deliver outstanding sporting and entertainment experiences by providing accurate, timely and insightful financial reporting that supports informed decision-making and strong commercial outcomes.
Working within the Marvel Stadium Finance team and reporting to the Finance Manager – Stadium, you will support AFL matches and major events through event financial reporting, stakeholder partnering, car park and ancillary revenue reporting, procurement support and financial analysis.
This role offers hands-on exposure to major national and international sporting and entertainment events, with opportunities to build expertise in commercial finance, event accounting, financial performance reporting and ROI analysis within a high-profile operating environment.
What you’ll own
You’ll help ensure the financial performance of Marvel Stadium events is accurately reported, understood and supported through strong stakeholder partnerships and disciplined financial processes.
You’ll add value through:
- Preparing, reviewing and finalising financial returns for AFL matches and major events held at Marvel Stadium
- Ensuring event revenues, costs and settlements are accurately recorded and aligned with contractual and commercial agreements
- Partnering with event promoters and stakeholders to confirm post-event financial outcomes, resolve discrepancies and support timely settlements
- Maintaining accurate documentation, reconciliations and audit trails across event-related financial activities
- Acting as a key finance contact for event promoters, managers and touring partners, building trusted and collaborative relationships
- Supporting financial insights and reporting for event debriefs, helping stakeholders understand performance outcomes and opportunities
- Managing car park revenue reporting, reconciliations and performance tracking across event and non-event periods
- Supporting billing, income tracking and financial oversight of contractual arrangements and recurring revenue streams
- Assisting procurement activities, including purchase order management, invoice review and cost allocation processes
- Supporting compliance with AFL and Marvel Stadium financial controls, policies and procurement requirements
- Contributing to post-event reviews, ROI analysis and solution-focused reporting to support commercial decision-making
- Identifying opportunities to improve reporting processes, systems and financial insights across the event portfolio
What you’ll bring
- Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
- Minimum 3–4 years’ experience in finance, accounting or a similar role
- Demonstrated experience preparing financial reports, reconciliations and financial analysis with a high degree of accuracy
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities, events and deadlines simultaneously
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with financial systems
- Well-developed communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with internal stakeholders and external partners
- Experience building productive working relationships across finance, operations and commercial teams
- Sound understanding of financial controls, compliance requirements and accurate record keeping
- Ability to analyse financial performance and provide clear, practical insights to support decision-making
- Collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement and cross-functional teamwork
- Strong commercial awareness and interest in understanding operational and financial performance drivers
Ideally, you will also have
- Experience in event finance, commercial operations, venue, sport or entertainment environments
- Experience using Workday Adaptive and Dynamics 365
- CPA/CA qualification, or commitment to undertaking professional accreditation
