The opportunity

The Executive Producer - Video Content plays a key role in bringing AFL and AFLW stories to life across digital platforms, helping fans connect with the game through engaging, high-quality video content.

 

Reporting to the Managing Editor – AFL and based at AFL House, this role leads the development and delivery of video content across AFL and AFLW websites and apps, including editorial shows, podcasts, short-form vertical content and inside access content.

 

Leading a team of editorial producers and videographers, the role shapes and delivers the video strategy alongside the AFL and AFLW Managing Editors, while managing internal and external resources to deliver on content plans and audience objectives.

 

As part of the AFL Editorial leadership team, this role contributes to the digital engagement strategy and supports journalists, editors and sub-editors to bring content to life through video. It combines strategic leadership with hands-on creativity across the editorial and production process, including at times producing video content directly.

 

What you’ll own

You will lead the planning, production and delivery of innovative and engaging video content that supports AFL and AFLW editorial priorities, audience engagement and the broader digital content plan.

 

You’ll add value through:

  • Leading, coaching and developing a team of digital video content creators, including producers and videographers, across shows, podcasts, match highlights, interviews and behind-the-scenes content
  • Playing an active role in coordinating the people and resources required to shape, plan and deliver video content ideas that support AFL and AFLW editorial priorities, audience engagement and the broader digital content plan
  • Overseeing the delivery of weekly studio shows, podcasts and other recurring video formats across AFL digital platforms
  • Identifying opportunities to adapt text and audio content into compelling video content for websites, apps, streaming, YouTube and vertical video platforms
  • Playing an active role in content ideation, planning and innovation to improve audience engagement and content quality
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders, including broadcast partners, commercial partners, clubs and production agencies, to support content delivery, approvals and accreditation processes
  • Managing the relationship between the AFL and third-party production and studio providers to support seamless, efficient and high-quality content delivery within agreed scope
  • Attending and contributing to key planning sessions, including news meetings and event working groups, to align video activity with editorial and event priorities
  • Assisting the Production Operations and Digital Facility Manager with the operations of AFL technical facility, media and archive requirements
  • Managing production budgets, resources, freelance and casual rostering, facilities and equipment responsibly and within agreed scope
  • Using data, audience insights, emerging technology and AI to improve content quality, efficiency, engagement and how work is delivered

 

What you’ll bring

  • Experience producing live events and creating behind-the-scenes video content for digital platforms, including YouTube, streaming platforms, websites, apps and vertical video platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to foster content innovation, with a strong focus on digital video formats and audience engagement
  • Experience leading and managing a team of video production, media or digital content professionals
  • The ability to bring energy and passion to your work while inspiring your team and colleagues in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong stakeholder management capability, including experience managing complex internal and external relationships
  • Experience managing production budgets, rostering freelance and casual staff, and working with technical teams to deliver a production vision
  • A track record working with and managing high-profile media talent
  • Experience making data-driven decisions and a deep understanding of how technology can enhance content quality and production efficiency
  • A strong interest in staying across the latest technology in video production, including the use of AI
  • A deep understanding of best-practice operating models to support efficiency in the production process and consistent delivery of content
  • Sound judgement, collaboration and care in the way you work with internal teams, external partners and production providers
