ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Integrity Lead plays a critical role in safeguarding the reputation, fairness, and ethical standards of the AFL. The role supports the AFL’s commitment to maintaining public trust in Australian Football nationally, across all levels of the game from community football to the elite competition.  

 

The Integrity Lead is responsible for preventing, detecting and responding to Integrity matters across all levels of Australian Football managed by the AFL. The Integrity Lead is responsible for conducting high-level investigations into alleged integrity breaches, ensuring compliance with competition rules, regulations and policies. Working closely with leagues, clubs, officials and players, the Integrity Lead helps ensure that behaviours and practices align with AFL standards, promoting a safe, respectful and inclusive environment. By providing guidance, education, and support on integrity issues, the Integrity Lead helps ensure that all stakeholders are equipped to recognise, report and respond to Integrity matters.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

  • Provide advice and guidance on of a range of integrity subject matter, including but not limited to:
    • Safeguarding Children
    • Respectful Relationships (i.e. Family Violence)
    • Vilification
    • Wagering
    • Anti-Doping
    • Criminal Conduct
    • Personal Conduct that may pose a risk to the safety or risk to the reputation of the code itself at any level.
  • Lead investigations into alleged integrity breaches with a clear understanding of the application of policy, ensuring procedural fairness and confidentiality.
  • Conduct victim, witness and accused interviews using experienced investigative interviewing practices.
  • Develop and implement strategic investigation plans to achieve investigation objectives.
  • Prepare detailed Notices, Investigation Reports and Briefs of Evidence for Legal Counsel review and disciplinary action.
  • Facilitate the provision of welfare and support to assists those impacted by matters of Integrity.
  • Liaise with law enforcement, regulators, and sporting bodies on integrity matters.
  • Follow the AFL ISD case management process, understanding the significance of confidentiality and compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Represent the AFL in integrity-related committee meetings, forums and working groups to share knowledge, trends, challenges and opportunities.
  • Engage with leagues, clubs, umpires, officials and players to build a culture of ethical behaviour and accountability.
  • From community to elite football, assist with educating, upskilling and building capability across integrity matters.
  • Support the co-ordination and the safety of the AFL competition, events, infrastructure and it’s people in partnership with the AFL Security Team.

 

OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER 

  • Demonstrated experience in sports integrity including expertise in leading child safeguarding, vilification, anti-doping and wagering investigations against relevant policies.
  • Experience conducting complex investigations and the subsequent production of detailed investigation documents, reports and briefs of evidence.
  • Demonstrated experience in victim management is essential.
  • Experience delivering high-level briefings to senior management personnel.
  • Experience working with state-based Law Enforcement and Regulatory Government agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of community sporting frameworks.
  • High level of interpersonal, oral presentation and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated record of integrity and appropriate handling of confidential information.
  • The ability to work in a flexible manner and adjust to a rapidly changing environment.
