The opportunity
The Threat Intelligence Lead plays a critical role in helping protect AFL competitions, Marvel Stadium events, our people and the broader football community through intelligence-led security and integrity outcomes. This role supports informed decision-making by identifying, assessing and communicating threats across a diverse and evolving risk environment.
Working within the AFL Integrity & Security Department, you will lead the collection, analysis and production of intelligence that supports operational and strategic priorities. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, venue security teams, law enforcement agencies and intelligence partners to support the safe delivery of sporting and entertainment events and strengthen the AFL’s integrity and security capabilities.
What you’ll own
You will play a key role in delivering intelligence outcomes that support the AFL’s integrity, security and event operations.
You’ll add value through:
- Conducting threat, risk and vulnerability assessments for AFL matches, major events and activities at Marvel Stadium
- Supporting pre-event security planning, real-time threat monitoring and post-event reviews to strengthen event safety outcomes
- Monitoring, collecting and analysing intelligence relating to terrorism, criminal activity, crowd-related risks, insider threats, fixated persons and emerging security concerns
- Producing high-quality intelligence products, including threat assessments, briefs, reports and situational updates for senior stakeholders
- Monitoring open-source and social media environments to identify credible threats, concerning behaviours and emerging risks
- Assessing and reporting on fixation or targeting risks involving players, officials and other key stakeholders
- Triaging intelligence reports and contributing intelligence analysis to broader Integrity & Security Department investigations and activities
- Maintaining and enhancing intelligence databases, information holdings and intelligence processes to support operational effectiveness
- Identifying trends, intelligence gaps and emerging issues across the sport integrity and security landscape
- Building productive relationships with internal teams, law enforcement agencies, venue security partners and other external stakeholders to support collaboration and information sharing
- Supporting compliance activities with clubs and administrators across AFL, AFLW and State League competitions
- Assisting with the registration and administration of officials and players across AFL, AFLW and State League competitions
What you’ll bring
- Successful completion of an Intelligence Practitioners Course or a similar intelligence qualification
- Demonstrated experience in an intelligence, threat assessment, security or risk assessment environment
- Strong knowledge of intelligence methodologies, collection practices, analytical techniques and intelligence production processes
- Experience producing intelligence reports, briefings, presentations and assessments for senior decision-makers
- Sound understanding of security threats relevant to major events, crowded places and critical infrastructure environments
- Advanced OSINT and SOCMINT capability, including the ability to identify, assess and communicate emerging risks
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify patterns, trends, intelligence gaps and opportunities from diverse information sources
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications to analyse information and produce high-quality intelligence products
- Strong stakeholder engagement, liaison and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across a broad range of partners
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing operational requirements
- Sound judgement and a proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity
- Experience working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams to deliver operational outcomes
- Ability to remain calm and effective in dynamic, high-pressure environments
