The opportunity
 
 
We are seeking a School Competitions Coordinator/Lead – Greater Sydney to plan, coordinate and deliver the AFL Sydney Independent Schools Competition, ensuring a high‑quality and consistent experience for participants, schools and stakeholders.
 
The role is responsible for competition operations, stakeholder communication and administration, while also providing operational support to other school competitions and gala days across Greater Sydney.
 
This role is an 18 Month Maximum Term Contract.
 
 
 
What you’ll own
 
 
You’ll support the delivery and growth of participation programs that are engaging, accessible and aligned to AFL standards. 
 
  • Planning, coordinating and delivering the AFL Sydney Independent Schools Competition across Greater Sydney
  • Preparing fixtures, managing re‑grading processes and overseeing competition operations
  • Providing game‑day support to schools and managing casual staff, including Ground Managers
  • Ensuring a high‑quality experience for participants, officials, umpires and volunteers
  • Managing the competition management system (PlayHQ), including competition set‑up, fixtures, ladders and match‑day paperwork
  • Overseeing invoicing and payments related to school competitions
  • Maintaining regular communication with schools during and outside the competition season
  • Building and managing strong relationships with schools and key stakeholders, including umpiring and participation teams
  • Recruiting, training, supervising and deploying Ground Managers to ensure consistent delivery standards
  • Supporting Participation Managers and Coordinators with delivery of school competitions, including PSSA Gala Days, Catholic School Gala Days and AFL‑run school competition pathways
  • Supporting program bookings for After School Auskick and Superkick Centres for Independent Schools (K–6)
  • Contributing to the success of the broader Participation and Competitions team

What you’ll bring
 
  • Demonstrated strong administration and organisational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment and under pressure
  • Strong understanding of the school sport landscape, particularly Independent Schools
  • High attention to detail and a process‑driven approach
  • Experience using competition management systems such as PlayHQ (highly desirable)
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build trusted relationships
  • Sound knowledge of community sport competitions and environments
  • A genuine passion for growing grassroots participation in sport
  • A valid Employee Working with Children Check
