ABOUT THE ROLE

The School Competitions Coordinator is responsible for the planning and delivery of the AFL Sydney Independent Schools Competition, to ensure a high-quality experience for participants. The role will manage operations, stakeholder communications and operational function of this competition. The role will also be crucial in providing administrative and operational support to other school competitions and school gala days across Greater Sydney (e.g. PSSA, Catholic School Gala Days and AFL-run school competition pathways).

 

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

Key Accountabilities:

Competition Management:

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver the AFL Sydney Independent Schools Competition in Greater Sydney, including fixture preparation, competition management, re-grading process, game-day support to schools and managing casual staff (Ground Managers)
  • Deliver a high-quality experience for participants, officials, umpires and volunteers 

Systems, Finance and Administration:

  • Oversee the competition management system and database (PlayHQ) including competition set up, fixtures, entries of scores, maintaining ladders and league match day paperwork requirements
  • Maintain invoicing and payments

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Ensure effective communication with schools on a regular basis, both during the season and off-season
  • Manage relationships with schools and other key stakeholders such as the umpiring and participation teams

Staffing:

  • Manage and deploy staff on Deputy for ground managers on a weekly basis
  • Recruit, train and supervise Ground Managers to ensure consistent delivery standards

School Competition Event Support:

  • Operationally support Participation Managers and Participation Coordinators in delivery of school competitions across Greater Sydney, including PSSA Gala Days, AFL-Run school competition pathways in Greater Sydney and Catholic School Gala Days
  • Support and contribute to the success of the broader team

Program Booking Support:

  • Support Participation Managers and Participation Coordinators in booking After School Auskick/Superkick Centres for Independent Schools from K-6

  • Demonstrated efficient and effective administration and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to work under pressure
  • Strong understanding of school sport landscape, specifically Independent Schools
  • Strong attention to detail, process oriented (experience with competition management platforms such as PlayHQ is highly desirable)
  • Strong stakeholder management and ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Sound knowledge of community sport competitions and environment 
  • Passion for growing grassroots participation
