The opportunity
As a Game Development Officer, you’ll help connect children, families, schools and local communities across Tasmania to Australia’s game.
This casual role is all about creating fun, safe and inclusive football experiences that help young people be active, build confidence, develop friendships and feel part of something bigger.
A core focus of the role is supporting all-girls programs and participation opportunities that help grow confidence, belonging and long-term involvement for girls in football.
You don’t need to know everything about AFL or have played the game yourself. What matters most is your ability to connect with young people, create welcoming environments and bring positive energy to programs that help kids get active and engaged.
What you’ll own
As part of the game development team, you’ll help bring football to life across schools, clubs, community settings, events and game day experiences.
You’ll add value through:
- Delivering programs that inspire kids: Run fun, inclusive AFL activities in schools and community settings that help children build confidence, develop skills and enjoy being active.
- Supporting girls’ participation: Deliver and support all-girls programs and initiatives designed to grow opportunities for women and girls in football.
- Bringing Auskick and Superkick to life: Support sessions that introduce children to the game in a positive, welcoming and engaging way.
- Creating community connections: Help children, families, schools and local clubs connect through football and build positive pathways into local participation.
- Championing inclusion: Support multicultural, Indigenous and all-abilities programs that help make football accessible and welcoming for participants of different backgrounds and abilities.
- Supporting events and game day activity: Assist with community events and AFLW game day activities that create memorable experiences for participants and families.
- Creating positive experiences: Help ensure every session is safe, organised, enjoyable and delivered with care for children, young people and the wider community.
- Representing the AFL locally: Bring energy, reliability and professionalism to programs that help grow the game across Tasmania.
What you’ll bring
- Experience or confidence engaging with children and young people.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with schools, families, clubs and community groups.
- Confidence delivering activities to groups in a fun, safe and inclusive way.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliability, adaptability and sound judgement in community-based environments.
- A commitment to creating safe, welcoming and positive experiences for children and young people.
- Passion for helping young people be active, build confidence and connect through sport.
- Interest in growing opportunities for women and girls in football.
- Flexibility to work varied casual hours, including during school hours, before and after school, and occasionally evenings and weekends.
- A valid driver’s licence and access to reliable transport.
- A Registration to Work with Vulnerable People, or willingness to obtain one.
- Study or experience in teaching, education, youth work, health, recreation, sport, community engagement or program delivery would be valuable.
