ABOUT THE ROLE

The role of the Club Development Officer is to assist volunteers (committees and boards) across all AFL Victoria affiliated community clubs in AFL Western District local government areas.

 

The Club Development Officer will work with clubs, leagues, and association volunteers from AFL Victoria affiliated competitions to drive capacity building of volunteerism and assist them in performing key duties whilst building self-sufficiency in clubs and associations.

 

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

Key Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate and deliver support initiatives that promote good governance in clubs whilst minimising volunteer strain
  • Promote and drive self-sufficiency and capacity in clubs and associations by promoting resources such as “AFL Club Help”
  • Engage volunteers with education and compliance programs by coordinating seminars and workshops (programs may include Safeguarding Children, Concussion, Social Media usage, Respect and Responsibility, Racial Vilification and Inclusion and Cultural Awareness programs)
  • Increase awareness and applications of AFL Victoria’s various grant opportunities, including the Telstra Footy Country Grants
  • Drive clubs in identifying and registering a club volunteer coordinator in PlayHQ
  • Create reward and recognition opportunities for volunteerism
  • Work collaboratively with AFL Victoria, associations and leagues to:
    • Identify and drive best practice support for volunteers
    • Attend, and participant in, club development workshops in East Gippsland and Wellington
  • Work collaboratively with relevant regions to:
    • Manage the administrative tasks associated with the delivery of regional programs and workshops, i.e., coaching accreditation, governance, strategic planning, mental health, etc.
    • Assist clubs and associations with volunteer recruitment and retention

Core Competencies:

  • Understanding of the volunteer capacities of community clubs
  • Knowledge and understanding of community football  
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with high level of stakeholder management skills in particular negotiation
  • Ability to build strong working relationships – internal and external
  • Demonstrated personal initiative and ability to work effectively unsupervised whilst a member of a team
  • Current Driver's Licence
  • Proficiency in use of computers, document presentation and of Microsoft applications

Desirable:

  • Experience in volunteering in a community football environment
