Every role at the AFL helps progress the game, so more people can love it, connect with it and see what is possible through it.

The opportunity

As a Game Development Officer, you’ll play a vital role in connecting children, families and communities to Australia’s game. Through the delivery of participation programs, school initiatives and community activations, you’ll help create positive experiences that inspire lifelong involvement in sport and physical activity.

Working across metropolitan and regional Victoria, this casual role offers variety, flexibility and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. You’ll represent the AFL in local communities, delivering engaging football experiences that support participation, inclusion and the growth of the game.

Whether you’ve played Aussie Rules, rugby league, soccer, netball, cricket, or you have no prior sporting experience – your experience is valuable with us. You don’t need to know AFL; you just need a love for sport, a positive attitude, and a passion for helping kids stay active and connected through team sport.

What you’ll own

As a key member of the AFL Victoria participation team, you’ll help bring football to life across schools, clubs, community settings and major match-day experiences.

You’ll add value through:

  • Delivering the Game: Run dynamic Auskick, Superkick, AFL Nines, school clinics, and School Holiday Programs that spark a lifelong love of footy across schools and local communities.
  • Creating Halftime Experiences: Bring the excitement to AFLM and AFLW matchdays by delivering Auskick and Superkick halftime programs, creating memorable moments for participants on the biggest stage.
  • Building Community Connections: Create clear and welcoming pathways into junior and senior clubs, strengthening community ties and fostering a sense of belonging through the game.
  • Championing Inclusion: Support and deliver inclusive football opportunities, including working alongside participants and stakeholders within the Blind and Wheelchair Football Leagues, ensuring footy is accessible to everyone.
  • Supporting Women and Girls Growth: Actively support the growth of women’s and girls’ football across all programs, schools, clubs, and community initiatives.
  • Promoting Our Game: Engage schools and communities through promotional activities such as Kick to Kicks, school assemblies, and come-and-play sessions that showcase the fun and inclusivity of AFL.
  • Getting Involved In Plenty More Fun: Support AFL club-based activations, champion inclusion and diversity initiatives, and assist with other duties that contribute to growing the game

What you’ll bring

  • Experience working with children and young people.
  • Strong verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence delivering engaging activities and programs to groups of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated initiative, organisation and sound judgement in community-based environments.
  • A commitment to creating safe, positive and inclusive experiences for participants.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with schools, clubs, community groups and other stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard business hours, including evenings, weekends and school holiday periods.
  • Current Victorian Driver Licence and access to a motor vehicle.
  • A valid Victorian Employee Working with Children Check.
  • Tertiary qualifications (completed or in progress) in Sports Management, Sports Science, Sports Coaching, Recreation, Education or a related discipline, or equivalent experience (desirable).
  • Experience coordinating and engaging a diverse range of stakeholders (desirable).
