The opportunity
As Umpiring Coordinator – Competition & Pathways, you will help strengthen and grow grassroots umpiring while supporting the delivery of competitions and pathway programs across Queensland. This role plays an important part in creating positive experiences for umpires, clubs, schools and communities, while helping develop the next generation of officiating talent.
Based in Brisbane or the Gold Coast, the role combines operational delivery with proactive initiatives that support recruitment, development and retention across community, schools, talent, diversity, inclusion and Nines competitions. You will work closely with Umpires, Umpire Coaches and key stakeholders to deliver high-quality match day environments and pathway experiences.
What you’ll own
You will help deliver quality umpiring experiences that support participation, development and performance across all levels of the game.
You’ll add value through:
- Coordinating the provision of umpiring across competitions and pathway programs throughout South East Queensland and supporting Regional Queensland initiatives
- Managing weekly umpire appointments and supporting match-day operations to ensure competitions run smoothly and professionally
- Coordinating the Umpire Mentor Program across Youth football to support development and retention outcomes
- Acting as a key point of contact for Umpire Coaches across the AFL Queensland pathway program
- Providing guidance, education and support to Umpires and Umpire Coaches to strengthen capability and consistency
- Building positive relationships with clubs, schools and stakeholders to help create quality match day environments
- Supporting local initiatives aligned to the AFL National Umpiring Strategy, including recognition and development programs
- Contributing to broader team priorities and projects that strengthen umpiring participation and experiences across the game
What you’ll bring
- Demonstrated experience in umpiring, coaching or sports administration
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Proven relationship management and communication capability across a range of stakeholders
- High-level administration skills with strong attention to detail
- Confidence preparing clear and professional written communication
- Ability to support and influence recruitment, retention and development initiatives for umpires
- Sound judgement, emotional intelligence and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
- A commitment to creating positive, inclusive and supportive experiences across community football environments
